Dave's Drag Racing History
I grew up in Cookham not far from Blackbushe, the local newspaper carried a report on the 1964 Dragfests, this was my introduction to the sport. The first visit to Blackbushe was in the early 70's I was hooked. In the following years an old battered 1967 Mustang was acquired for a few hundred pounds and that was driven to the strip and raced throughout the 70's. In those days there were many strips to race at; Blackbushe, Wroughton, Snetterton, Long Marston and Silverstone all promoted by the NDRC and being within easy driving distance. The car was raced at these events and at Santa Pod with a fair amount of success. A lot of work eventually made it a reliable 14 second car. Which wasnt bad for a street car almost 50 years ago.
